DOES JESUS KNOW YOU?
The Danger of False Security: Washer warns that many people, even those who have grown up in a Christian environment, may have a false sense of security about their faith. He stresses that simply being raised in a Christian home is not the same as having a personal, regenerated faith [02:22].
The Power of Regeneration: Salvation is described as being by faith alone, which is a result of the Holy Spirit’s supernatural power regenerating the heart. This divine recreation is considered an even greater display of God’s power than the creation of the world itself [02:47].
The Narrow Gate and the Narrow Way: The sermon focuses on the verses about the narrow gate and the narrow way [06:23]. The speaker clarifies that the “gate” refers to entering through Jesus by faith, while the “way” represents the evidence of that faith—a life of discipleship [10:09]. He argues that walking in the way is not a means to maintain salvation but is the proof that one has truly passed through the gate [12:01].
The New Nature and God’s Providence: Washer uses an analogy of a pig and a man to explain the concept of a new nature that comes with conversion [14:00]. A regenerated person has a new nature that reacts differently to sin, feeling shame and a desire to be free from it [16:29]. He also states that God’s providence and discipline, like a caring father, ensure that His children stay on the right path [18:45].
Knowing Jesus vs. Jesus Knowing You: A critical point of the sermon is the distinction between a person knowing Jesus and Jesus knowing the person [29:40]. The speaker highlights that on the day of judgment, many will claim to have performed great works in Jesus’s name, but He will say, “I never knew you” [26:23]. This is because a true relationship is not based on outward works, but on a personal, daily communion and fellowship [32:03].
The Importance of Obedience: The sermon concludes by emphasizing that true discipleship is characterized by a conscientious effort to obey God’s commands [35:17]. This obedience is not a path to salvation but is the natural result of a regenerated heart [40:21]. The speaker warns that hearing God’s word without acting on it is like building a house on sand, which will not withstand the judgment to come [38:40].
