Gifts: The Fellowship among Believers

Grace and peace to you, brethren, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May the love of the Spirit strengthen your hearts and bind you together in unity.

Beloved, we write to you with joy and with earnest counsel, urging you not to forsake fellowship with one another. It is a good and holy thing when believers visit one another, for by this, we are edified by the ministerial gifts Christ has given to His body. Some are teachers, some are preachers, some are encouragers, and others bring songs of praise; yet all are for the building up of the church of Christ.

Therefore, do not be afraid to invite fellow believers who are proven to be faithful in the Gospel, that they may share their gifts of the Spirit among you. Whether in teaching, exhortation, or song, let all be done for the strengthening of the church, with confidence that the Lord Himself is in control.

But hear this warning, beloved: if any believer, whether invited or among you, seeks to bring division or strife, such a one must be corrected and rebuked in love. Let him repent, for such behavior does not build up but tears down the household of faith. For it is written, “Warn a divisive person once, and then a second time; after that, have nothing to do with them” (Titus 3:10).

If any brother believes he has received a new revelation or a matter of doctrine, let him first consult with the elders of the church. If the Spirit confirms it to the leadership, then let it be taught for the good of all. But if it is not confirmed, let him withhold, lest he sow confusion. For it is the Spirit of the Lord who reveals truth in the right season, not the will of man.

Beloved, when you gather, let all things be done for edification. Sin, however, must be rebuked without fear, for our God is holy and will not fellowship with evil.

We also urge you to use technology wisely. The enemy of our souls uses these same tools to divide believers. Many have turned group discussions into battlegrounds for debates, forcing convictions upon one another. But conviction belongs to the Holy Spirit alone. Such quarrels cool the love of brethren until they no longer walk in unity.

Therefore, let your communications be pure and purposeful—use them for prayer requests, for announcing gatherings, for sharing encouragements and exhortations from the Scriptures. Let no one use these channels to boast in knowledge or to belittle another, for love builds up but pride destroys.

And concerning your gatherings, we counsel you: do not neglect the collection of offerings. For in this way, the needs of the fellowship and the poor among you may be supplied, and you may show forth the generosity of Christ, who though rich became poor for our sake.

Now may the Lord bless you and keep you in perfect peace. May He strengthen your fellowship, preserve you from division, and fill you with every grace until the day of His appearing.

In the love of Christ,
Believers
