This module explores the biblical narrative of how the one God, who is Spirit, manifested Himself in the flesh as Jesus Christ. It will explain why this manifestation was necessary and how it does not create a second or third god.
This is a vital lesson for understanding how God, in His oneness, could come to Earth to save humanity.
The Core Nature of God is Spirit
Before we can understand the manifestation of God in the flesh, we must first grasp God’s fundamental nature. The Bible is clear that God is not a physical being. Jesus Himself stated this truth to the woman at the well:
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24
This verse confirms that God, in His essence, is an invisible, incorporeal Spirit. A spirit does not have a body of flesh and bones. This spiritual nature is what allows Him to be omnipresent—everywhere at the same time—and omniscient—all-knowing. It is this invisible Spirit who is “the first and the last” and “besides whom there is no God.”
