God’s Unique Identity – The First and the Last

The prophet Isaiah delivers a powerful and direct message from God Himself, reinforcing the truth of His singular identity. God is not just one; He is the only one. Consider these verses from the book of Isaiah:

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” — Isaiah 43:10

In this profound statement, God is asserting His unparalleled identity. The declaration “Before me no god was formed” confirms that He is the ultimate, uncreated source of all existence. No divine being existed before Him or helped form Him. He is the first. Furthermore, the statement “nor will there be one after me” guarantees that no other god will ever exist to take His place. He is the last. This concept is further cemented in Isaiah 44:6, Revelation 1:17:

“I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no God.”

This is a powerful self-declaration. God is the beginning and the end. This is not a role shared by others; it is a unique characteristic of a lone, all-powerful God. It serves as a direct challenge to the idea of multiple co-eternal persons within the godhead. God’s identity is defined by His absolute singularity and eternal uniqueness.
