The Glorification of Jesus and the Eternal Image of God
The manifestation of God in the flesh was not a temporary display with no lasting effect. While Jesus’s physical body was necessary for the atonement of sin, His glorification ensured that God would have an image for all eternity.
“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, ‘Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.'” — Revelation 1:17-18
In this vision, the Apostle John sees the glorified Jesus. The one God, who declared “I am the first and the last” in Isaiah, now declares the same truth from His glorified state as Jesus Christ. Jesus is not just a separate entity; He is the one God in His new, eternal image—the image that was made visible and will now be the face of God forever.
Looking Ahead: With our understanding of God’s oneness and the true identity of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we are now ready to tackle the historical and philosophical influences that led to the development of the Trinity doctrine in our next module.
