Jesus as the Visible Image of the Invisible God
The New Testament confirms that Jesus was the very manifestation of the invisible God in a physical form. The Apostle Paul states this clearly:
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” — Colossians 1:15
What is invisible? The Spirit of God. What was made visible? The man, Jesus, who was God’s physical manifestation. This does not make Jesus a separate person from God the Father. Instead, it shows that God, in His love for humanity, chose to make Himself visible and relatable through the human form of Jesus Christ. The Father did not send a separate person; the Father, who is Spirit, came in a body. This is why Jesus could say:
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.” — John 14:10
The “Father” is the invisible, spiritual God, and “me” (Jesus) is the visible, bodily manifestation of that same God. The two are not separate individuals but are one and the same God operating in different forms.
Looking Ahead: Now that we understand how the one God manifested Himself in the flesh, our next module will clarify the roles of Jesus and the Holy Spirit within this biblical framework.
