The Meaning of “Father” and “Right Hand”

• What Does “Father” Mean? “Father” is not a separate person from Jesus but a title that refers to God’s relationship to His creation and to Jesus. Jesus is called the “Son of God” because He is the physical manifestation of the one God. This terminology highlights the divine nature of God (the Father) coming into a human body (the Son) to accomplish salvation. It is about a relationship, not a division of God’s essence.

• What Is the “Right Hand”? The phrase “right hand” is a metaphor for ultimate power and authority, not a literal location next to a separate throne. In Hebrew, the word is yamin (יָמִין), and in Greek, it is dexios (δεξιός). Both words are used throughout Scripture to symbolize power, honor, and strength. For example, Psalm 44:3 says, “For they got not the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face—for you favored them.” Here, the right hand is clearly God’s power, not a literal hand. Similarly, when Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, it signifies that all power and authority have been given to Him (Matthew 28:18), because He is God’s full and complete expression. This is one throne, one authority, and one God.
